Getting Started
How Often Should I Come? What Is The Best Approach?
There are many different ways to approach and build a strong Pilates practice. We at reFORM recommend starting with at least 5 private sessions which can be accomplished through the introductory package of 5 sessions for $215.
It is also important to build this foundation with consistent practice so that a mind body connection may be established. Two sessions weekly to start will allow for the muscle memory to develop as the body adapts to this method of movement. We also encourage students to pair Pilates with some form of cardiovascular movement such as walking, hiking, swimming, or bike riding as part of the Pilates workout involves structural integration of body patterning.
One of the first lessons learned is what we call "squaring the box" or aligning shoulders upon hips so that the core muscles groups may be more effectively utilized in day to day tasks and athletic endeavors. Postural alignment and its function in everyday life is such an important part of understanding and witnessing the true benefits of Pilates-from weight loss to increased energy, even the disappearance of chronic aches and pains. From privates, one may choose to continue with Private instruction or upon the agreement of instructor and student, the student may choose to continue Pilates with duo (2 people) or trio (3 people) sessions.
Of course, it doesn't hurt to always refresh one's practice with an occasional private session to focus on details and specifics. With any package, mat classes are provided at no extra charge as long as at least one equipment based session is being taken weekly. We encourage students to attend mat classes to supplement and support the equipment based work. As reFORM believes in this systematic approach, mat is used as it was intended by Joseph Pilates, to support the equipment based work and to give a portable option for practice.
How Do I Schedule My First Appointment?
To schedule your first appointment, please call the studio. While email works to communicate with us about general inquiries, we prefer to speak to you so that we may ensure that all of your scheduling needs and preferences are sufficiently honored.
Over the phone, we may also explain some of the finer details about the studio, your first appointment, and expectations. We have appointment times available Monday-Saturday beginning at 7am. On Monday-Friday, our last available appointment time is 6:30 pm, and on Saturday 3pm. If you have scheduling needs outside of these windows, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If we are not able to answer the phone because we are teaching or helping other customers, please allow a couple of hours for us to return your call. We really look forward to talking and meeting you in person!
