GYROKINESIS®

GYROKINESIS® was developed by GYROTONIC® founder Juliu Horvath as a way of healing his own body through movement. With elements of dance, gymnastics, swimming, tai chi, and yoga, a GYROKINESIS® class is performed without equipment. GYROKINESIS® unifies the sensory, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, nervous, and other systems of the body. As in GYROTONIC®, spinal motions are emphasized, and the same variety and fluidity of movement is applied to the body's other joints. For more information on GYROKINESIS®, visit the GYROTONIC® homepage.

reFORM offers group GYROKINESIS® on Fridays from 2:00-3:00 PM. The class is open to all levels and is taught by Lucy Yim.

About Lucy Yim:

Lucy Yim

Lucy Yim

Lucy is interested in conscientious movement practices where clarity of intention, thoughtfulness, and patience are emphasized. She came into teaching GYROTONIC® with a background in modern dance practices, experiential anatomy and Bartenieff Fundamentals. She believes that function and expression are akin and that physical suffering can only be dealt with through the presence of joyful movement and breath. She found these principles within the GYROTONIC® Expansion System and was amazed at how much of her own physical pain vanished and life became more balanced.

She started the certification process at GYROTONIC® Manhattan and finished under Emma Kingston at Center GYROTONIC®. Her goal as a teacher is to get her clients moving with more efficiency, with breath and clarity through space, but most of all, from a place of ease and joy. Lucy holds a BA in Liberal Studies from Sarah Lawrence College and is a Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute. She is an avid supporter of the arts and when not teaching can be found spending time with her husband and dog and dancing around Portland.
