Online Pilates Teachers Part 1
Our Pilates an Gyrotonic instructors are sharing about their experiences teaching online!
From reFORM co-owner Kelli:
My first week of teaching Pilates and Gyrotonic from home went bettor than expected. It felt so familiar to be with the people I normally see in my week and I noticed how important that was for me to connect to this aspect of my life. I notice how balanced and positive I feel after teaching all of you!
A new aspect of online teaching is joining the student in movement much more than I normally do. This adds an interesting aspect to teaching. I’m finding a balance between teaching the movement using the screen as a visual and watching how the student was translating my direction. Some people’s brains need less words and more mirroring While others can follow without seeing someone leading. Without touch which is one of my main tools, I’m figuring out how to add being touched into what I’m offering.
For clients who I have seen for over a decade, teaching through the medium of Zoom has offered me a different perspective to which I see my clients movement patterns. Through the much more distant view of the screen, my eye is forced in the direction of a whole body view. This gives me a point of view brings into clarity the entirety of the pattern and I can give pointed feedback that can make a deep shift.
Zooming out, like a camera, allows more of the picture to come in!
